Our Story

Hospital History

The founder of Shalom Hospitals started it as a private clinic in 1984 in Mutituni a town centre in Machakos County. It grew in stages, changed location and in 1992 was upgraded to Dr. Onyango’s Maternity & Nursing Home. Shalom Hospital Machakos was opened in 1998 as a fully-fledged private hospital with the aim of providing quality and affordable healthcare in the region. This growth led to the birth of Athi River Shalom Community Hospital currently located in Athi River, St.Jairus Hospital in Kisumu .

Today, Shalom Group of Hospitals includes four hospitals and one satellite clinic. These are:

Machakos Shalom Community Hospital located in Machakos Town with a bed capacity of 170
Athi River Shalom Community Hospital located in Athi River with a bed capacity of 250.
St. Jairus Hospital located in Kisumu with a bed capacity of 65.

Shalom group of Hospitals has always strongly believed in social initiatives that help transcend barriers. In keeping with this, the group has started several impactful programmes that involve conducting outreaches throughout the region. These outreaches focus on the needy and far to reach areas with the aim of conducting diagnostic and medical consultancy to such people. The programme also focuses on cancer screening, cure and rehabilitation for those in need. Shalom Hospital regularly conducts comprehensive health screening camps across the nation.
